about

Astroturfing is the practice of masking the sponsors of a message or organization (e.g., political, advertising, religious or public relations) to make it appear as though it originates from and is supported by grassroots participant(s).

It is a practice intended to give the statements or organizations more credibility by withholding information about the source's financial connection.

This collection brings together a series of of musical vignettes created over a 15 year period between 2000 and 2015, which all revolve around the theme of disinformation.

These musical pieces are all different experiments in recontextualizing musical tropes in an attempt to musically represent the disorientating nature of disinformation and the spectrum of anxieties it intentionally induces.

This concept and the theory of it's origins, purpose and effects, have been convincingly explored through the lucid prose of authors such as:

Mark Fisher - k-punk.abstractdynamics.org
Jaron Lanier - www.jaronlanier.com
Douglas Rushkoff - www.rushkoff.com
Oliver James - selfishcapitalist.com
Timothy Wu - www.timwu.org

And more broadly via publishers such as:

Zero Books - www.zero-books.net
Repeater Books - repeaterbooks.com/books/
Verso Books - www.versobooks.com
